There were nerves, there were tears but most importantly there were huge grins that couldn’t be removed!
The Kids from the Cauldron were simply amazing at their first ever competition at Crossfit 224 on the weekend. The Cauldron was represented by Annabelle and Emma (Oh My WOD), Charlie and Sam (2 Fit 2 Quit) and Taasha and Safia (The Tigers)
Having arrived just as the briefing started the Kid’s attention was all on the organisers to find out what the WODs would be along with the standards. This finished and the questions started, at this point I wasn’t sure who was more nervous, the kids or the parents.
It wasn’t long until the first heat started and the youngest of our competitors Taasha and Safia were out on the floor. They couldn’t have done any better, they listened to the judge and the coach and even gave the crowd a new take on burpee bar hop overs (you can ask Nicole, Amanda, Lauren, Bill or Tamara for a demo).
No sooner had the nerves calmed it was time for our next 4 kids Charlie, Sam, Annabelle and Emma to hit the floor. And hit the floor they did, both pairs came out racing but once they found their groove, you simply couldn’t stop them.
There wasn’t one point throughout the competition were anyone gave up and even when they were worried and thought they couldn’t do a movement, they got out on the floor and smashed it.
Despite giving it everything they had Charlie and Sam only just missed out on making into the finals, regardless we are all still super proud that they fought as hard as they could all day.
Taasha and Safia could now be regarded as the grin twins, getting into the finals, smiling the whole way through and finishing up in 5th place. Such a fantastic effort, from our youngest competitors.
Finishing up in an impressive 2nd place were Annabelle and Emma who quite honestly made the whole thing look easy. Not only did they come from behind after finishing the burpee broadjumps last, they also had to correct a false finish by coming back and doing 2 more wall walks. They handled themselves perfectly and got the job done like the superstars they are.
When asked her thoughts on how the Kids went in their first Comp, Coach Nicole had the following to say:
“I’d just like to say how proud I am of each and every one of those beautiful kids that competed. They were inspiring and never gave up, even when movements they had never done before came up in the WOD’s. They gave it everything they had! And a big thank you to Lauren and Tamara for helping out on the day and for ‘calming my nerves’ lol”
If there is one thing we can take away from watching the Kids compete, it’s that it pays to smile. Maybe it’s a little something we can all try to get us through those grueling WOD’s.
Thank you to Matthew Townsend Photography and Tamara for the photos.
